🥣 Instant Ulavacharu Recipe – Easy Andhra Style

🌿 Introduction

Ulavacharu (Horse Gram Soup) is a beloved traditional dish from Andhra cuisine — rich, tangy, and deeply satisfying.
This version uses ready-made instant Ulavacharu mix, enhanced with a flavorful tadka of ghee, garlic, curry leaves, and spices to give that authentic homemade aroma and taste.


🧂 Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp Ghee

  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds

  • ½ tsp Cumin (Jeera)

  • A pinch of Fenugreek seeds (Methi)

  • ¼ tsp Hing (Asafoetida)

  • 6–8 Garlic cloves, crushed

  • 1 Small onion, finely chopped

  • 2 Green chillies, slit

  • Few Curry leaves

  • ¼ tsp Turmeric powder

  • ½–1 tsp Red chilli powder (adjust to taste)

  • Salt to taste

  • 2–3 tbsp Instant Ulavacharu Mix

  • 2 cups Water (adjust as needed for desired consistency)


🔥 Preparation Method

  1. Heat ghee in a pan.

  2. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.

  3. Add jeera, fenugreek seeds, and hing, and sauté lightly.

  4. Add crushed garlic, green chillies, and curry leaves — fry until aromatic.

  5. Add chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden.

  6. Mix in turmeric powder, red chilli powder, and salt — stir well.

  7. Add the instant ulavacharu mix and water.

  8. Stir continuously and let it boil for 5–7 minutes until the flavors combine.

  9. Taste and adjust seasoning or thickness as needed.

Serve hot and enjoy the rich aroma and authentic taste!


Serving Suggestion

Serve Ulavacharu hot with steamed white rice and a spoon of ghee, or enjoy it warm as a tangy, comforting soup.
